HOPE – Janet L. Pease, 87, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Sunday, March 24, 2019 at the Sussman House in Rockport.

Born in Rockland, February 24,1932, she was one of nine children born to Andrew R., Sr. and Jennie G. Merrill Weymouth. She attended local schools and was a 1951 graduate of Rockland High School.

Janet married A. Lawrence Pease, December 31, 1948. Together they made their home and raised their family on Lisle Street in Rockland.

After her youngest child was in school, Janet began working at Grants Dairy in Rockland. Janet quickly advanced to Administrative Secretary and Office Manager.

In 1977, Janet and Lawrence moved to the beautiful blueberry fields in Hope, where they have since resided.

Her husband remembered that Janet would easily begin conversation with anyone and made friends wherever she went. He referred to her as a “Social Butterfly”. This was proven in the list of organizations she was associated with including; being a long-time devoted member of Littlefield Memorial Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Fidelis Class and the Over Sixty Club; a long-time active member of the Hatchet Mountain Snowmobile Club; for many years enjoyed camping and was a member of the MidCoast Good Sam Club, Chapter Four, now called “Happy Campers”; RFD Club of Hope; Coastal Clippers Square Dance Club; Extension, now called the Ladies Club and the Crazy Eights, which was a club made up of a group of friends, four from Hope, four from down east.

Janet enjoyed traveling especially with Maine Line Tours, guided by Mary Ann Moss and Dale Hayward, taking in Country and Western Shows. She also traveled to Switzerland and Hawaii, went on three cruises with visits to Mexico, Cayman Islands, Jamaica, Alaska and the Bahamas, and traveled to California with friends.
With church friends, the Dorr’s and Oaks’, Janet and Lawrence twice rented a van and traveled to the mid-west, taking in many of the beautiful sights that the United States has to offer.

Other than her parents, Janet was predeceased by her son Duane L. Pease; six sisters and their husbands, Evelyn and Elmer Merrifield, Elsie and Ralph Brackett, Mildred and Alfred Harjula, Viola and Carl Littlefield, Doris and Bernard Jackson, Charlotte and Carl Johnson; two brothers, Andrew Weymouth and his wife Christie, and William Weymouth. She is survived by her beloved husband of 70 years, A. Lawrence Pease; two daughters, Iris Stout and her husband Walt of Pennsylvania, Kris Smith of Massachusetts; nine grandchildren, Nicholas Pease and his wife Aili, Samuel Pease and his wife Olivia, Caleb Pease, Amelia Adolphsen and her husband Ethan, Rachel Pease, Selena Berlied and her husband Brad, Jeffrey Smith, Lara Smith and her husband Arthur, Eric Fleming and his wife Amy; 16 great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews; and many extended family and friends whom she loved deeply.

Family and friends are invited to visit from 5:00 to 7:00pm, Monday, April 1, 2019 at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, April 2, 2019 at the Littlefield Memorial Baptist Church, One Waldo Ave, Rockland with a reception to follow.

So very sorry for your loss. I always seemed to meet Janet going in or out of church and she was always so friendly and especially sweet to my granddaughter Aubrey. God Bless you.

As the 3rd grade teacher at Hope Elementary School for many years, I always appreciated Mrs. Pease taking the time to be a pen pal to a student. The children were ALWAYS so excited on the day of the Pen Pal Tea to finally meet their pen pal. Mrs. Pease helped light up a little child's life.
