Obituary for William Peace

ROCKPORT, ME – William F. Peace, 86, died Friday, December 21, 2018 with his family at the Sussman Hospice Home, after a battle with ALS.

Bill was born in Bristol, Connecticut, October 1, 1932 to Oliver and Alma Coombs Peace. A graduate of Plainville High School, he later attended Brown University where he served as president of the Delta Upsilon fraternity, co-chairman of the Brown Community Fund, and was an active member of the Class Council and Brown Key. Following graduation in 1954, he served in the U.S. Army’s Special Agent Counter Intelligence Corps at Fort Carson, Colorado.

Bill began his career at Proctor & Gamble and later moved to the real estate field, where he worked for the majority of his professional career. During this period he served on the Board of Directors of the Greater Hartford Board of Realtors and was recognized by them as Realtor of the Year in 1983.

Residing in Simsbury, Connecticut for 35 years, Bill was active in the community. He served as Chairman of the Simsbury Cultural and Recreation Commission, Director of the Chamber of Commerce, Co-Chairman of the Community Fund, Treasurer of the Summer Theater for Youth, member of the Building Committee for Reproduction of the Simsbury Meeting House and Chairman of the Simsbury Board of Tax Review. He was honored as town’s Citizen of the Year in 1973.

Following Bill’s retirement, he and his wife, Patti, moved to Rockport, Maine. There, he continued his volunteer work with the Camden, Rockport and Lincolnville Chamber of Commerce, Aldermere Farm, Camden Food Pantry, Owl’s Head Transportation Museum and Friends of the Rockport Library.

Bill is survived by his beloved wife of sixty-one years, Patricia Watters Peace; daughter Stacie and husband R. John Feely, III of Hingham, Massachusetts; son William Scott and wife Janet Peace of Oakton, Virginia; and granddaughters, Madison Feely, Taylor and Kenzie Peace. He leaves his sister Virginia Kurtz of Rutland, Vermont. His sister Phyllis Giedd predeceased him.

A celebration of his life will be held this June. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his memory may be made to either Pen Bay Waldo Healthcare Foundation-The Sussman House, at 22 White Street, Rockland, ME 04841 or Maine Health Care at Home - Charity Care, at 15 Industrial Park Road, Saco, ME 04072.
