THOMASTON – Walter Joseph Brochu, Jr., 38, known to many as Joey, often nicknamed Wally, died peacefully, following a courageous battle with cancer, Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at Sussman Hospice House in Rockport. His loving family was at his side.

Joey was predeceased by his parents, Walter, Sr. and Deborah Robinson Brochu; his daughter Danielle Lee Havener Brochu; nephew Daniel M. Shallow; his grandparents, Ernest and Bertha Robinson, Arthur Brochu and Eva Russell, as well as many other loved ones.

Joey had a passion for being on the water. He loved living on Isleboro with his brother where he lobstered with his boss and good friend Seth. One of his favorite pastimes was going fishing with his adopted brother Matt Brown, his cousins, Mike and Shannon, and his brothers and nephews.

Joey was loved by everyone he came in contact with and he loved his entire family fiercely. Even those who weren’t blood relatives became family. He had a special relationship with his adopted sister Beth and her daughter Jazzy whom he thought of as a niece.

The light of Joey’s life was his beautiful daughter Danielle, whom he shared with Sarah L. Havener. After Danielle passed away at just five months old from SIDS, Joey chose not to have any other children. He devoted his life to being an amazing uncle to all his nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by all who loved him.

Joey is survived by his siblings, Melissa Wright and her husband Eric, Dale C. Shallow, Jr., Heidi Drinkwater and her husband Jason, Jeremy Brochu and his fiancée Tara Leach, James Brochu, David Reckards, III, Angela Robbins; his nieces and nephews, Shelby, Travis, and Zachery Shallow, Peter Graffam, Jr., Ryley Havener, Jeremy Brochu, Jr., Lily Brochu, Cameron Emmett, Bill Dunning and Zachery Dunning.
A celebration of Joey’s life will be held from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., Saturday, January 26, 2019 at the Masonic Temple in Thomaston. Interment will be held in the spring.

Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland.
