Obituary for Sandra Whittier

SOUTH THOMASTON – Sandra L. Whittier, RNCS, Clinical Nurse Specialist, 76, wife of Joseph G. LaBranche, died Friday, November 16, 2018, at Maine Medical Center in Portland, after a period of declining health.

She was born in Spartenburg, South Carolina, July 16, 1942. Although a Southern Belle by birth, Sandra grew up in Freedom, Maine. She loved to ride her bike to Lake St. George, and always talked about the many nights spent at her grandmother Bryant’s house in downtown Freedom, only a short step away from her parents’ house.

Her family of five boys, their children, her husband and their granddaughter/daughter, were her life’s happiness.
Working was both her vocation and her hobby. Sandra counseled many people over her 40-year career as a Psychiatric Nurse Specialist, having earned a master’s degree in nursing. Working with all her patients was her true life’s passion.

To unwind Sandra and her husband enjoyed buying and selling antiques and had gathered many friends in that business through the years. Some of her greatest pleasures, were camping on Crawford Pond and overseeing the health and growth of her home and office gardens.

Besides her husband Joseph and granddaughter/daughter Isabella LaBranche of South Thomaston, Sandra is survived by five sons, John Seitz and his wife Natalie of Pennsylvania, Michael Seitz, Philip Seitz, Christopher LaBranche, Joseph LaBranche and his wife Andrea all of Rockland; five grandchildren, Mia, Jonathan, Elijah, Olivia and Joe, as well as brothers and sisters-in-law.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 12:00 Noon, Friday, November 30, 2018, at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church of St. Brendon the Navigator Parish, 150 Broadway, Rockland.
