Obituary for Priscilla Adams Smith
ROCKLAND - Priscilla Adams Smith, 96, died Sunday, February 3, 2019 at her home in Rockland surrounded by her loving family.
Priscilla was born June 22, 1922, the daughter of Forest and Hilda Locke Brazier. Priscilla spent many happy years on the Smith Estate, Warrenton Park, Glen Cove, Maine with grandparents Herbert and Clara Brazier. Herbert was caretaker of the estate for 40 years.
A graduate of Rockland High School, Class of 1941, she was later graduated from Endicott College, The University of Maine and Simmons College. She worked as a radio re-writer for the United Press in New York City during WWII, and was Public Relations Director for the Farnsworth Museum for 10 years. She served as the Maine Representative for the American Association of Museums, representing the six New England States at a Senate Subcommittee meeting for the Museum Services Act in Washington, D.C., was a member of the Maine Museum Commission, feature writer for the Portland Sunday Telegram, columnist for the Courier Gazette and journalist for the Bangor Daily News. She was an officer of, the Shakespeare Society, the Home for Aged Women, and a member of the Eastern Maine Development Commission and the local P.T.A.
In 1947 she married Christy Adams, son of Spiro P. and Jennie Naum Adams and had children Christy II and Lynn Adams. Her husband, Judge Christy Adams, died on an ocean liner on return from London where the couple had gone to attend the American Bar Association meeting in 1971.
In 1991 Priscilla married Richard Herrick Smith in Tortola, B.V.I. where each had a winter residence. He was a partner in the insurance company of Pierson Smith, Stamford, Conn. He died in 1998.
Survivors besides her children are, her grandson Kade Adams-Shodeinde; her daughter-in-law Linda Adams; her nephews, Stephen and Jeffrey Brazier; her brother-in-law Arnold Hocking and his children and spouses, Bryan and Janet Hocking, Steven and Elise Hocking; and her cousin Anne Stinnett and her husband George.
Priscilla’s family has chosen to remember her life privately. Interment at Achorn Cemetery will be held at a later date.
