Obituary for Martha Alley

SOUTH THOMASTON – Martha E. Alley, 67, beloved mother of Jeremy Alley, died unexpectedly, Thursday, May 23, 2019 at her home.

Born in Rockland, November 15, 1951, she was the daughter of Arthur, Sr. and Lucy Rackliff Alley. Martha had an extraordinary youth playing with her cousins and a menagerie of unique pets at her Grammie’s house. Many comedic stories of her youth in Spruce Head have been told over the years. She was educated locally, graduating from Rockland High School.

Martha began her career at Van Baalen’s. A talented seamstress, she could alter and mend any tailoring challenge in her neighborhood. Later in life, as a woman dedicated to her work family she would often share her wonderful cooking and fabric skills as Production Manager at Studio 412 in Rockland.

Martha loved all children as if they were her own. Oh what a joy she had when her beloved only son had not one, but two children for her to be Grammie to!

Above all, Martha was one of a kind who loved everyone with all of her selfless heart and was deeply loved in return. She will be sadly missed by all who loved her.

Martha is survived by her loving son, Jeremy Alley and his wife Anastasia of South Thomaston; her beloved grandchildren, Cyrus and Geneva Alley both of South Thomaston; her sisters, Darlene Cocke and her husband David of Tenants Harbor, Wendy Roberts and her husband Brett of Spokane, WA; her brother Arthur Alley, Jr. and his wife Pennie of South Thomaston; her step-brothers, Gary Judecki, Rocky Judecki of Spruce Head; seven nieces and nephews Ben, Allie, Lucas, Allison, Renee, Rachel and Robert; as well as many close friends and family.

A celebration of Martha’s life and potluck picnic will be held at 12:00 PM (Noon) on Sunday, June 23, 2019 at ‘Grammie’s Park’ on Waterman Beach Road, South Thomaston. In the case of rain, the alternate location will be at the Spruce Head Community Building.

Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland.
