Obituary for Betty Sabins

UNION – Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Sabins, 84, died peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, Friday, June 14, 2019 at Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport.

Born August 26, 1934 in Lynn, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of Albert and Harriett Critch Reid.
Following high school, Betty married Kenneth Sabins on August 23, 1958. Together the pair moved to Union where they raised their three children, Glenn, Julie and Duane. For over 60 years they called Union their home.

Later while raising their children she took a job working for School Photo in Warren which she enjoyed very much.

Betty was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking, knitting, working outside in her flower gardens. She enjoyed singing whenever the music was on as well as at church. She was a member of Faith Bible Baptist Church in Searsmont.

One of the things she loved so much was being a grandmother. Having her grandchildren around was one of the things that brightened her day. A favorite place of hers was the family camp on Seven Tree Pond.

Everyone knew that if you were looking for Betty and Ken on a warm summer’s day, if they weren’t at home, they’d be at camp. She loved nothing more than cookouts with church friends and family, or hosting grandchildren’s birthday parties and being in the sun.

She will be greatly missed by anyone that had the pleasure of knowing her.

Predeceased by a son Duane Sabins in 2015 and a grandson Adam Sabins in 2005; her brother Charles Reid and his wife Jean; a sister Lillian ‘Joan’ Reid; and a nephew Stephen Reid; Betty is survived by her loving husband, Kenneth Sabins; her son Glenn Sabins and his wife Angela; her daughter Julie Pennell and her husband Greg all of Union; seven grandchildren, Erin Hall and her husband Erik, Nicole Colburn and her friend Jeff Dorr, Annie Reed and her husband Michael Reed, Jonas M. A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at Faith Bible Baptist Church, 68 Woodman’s Mill Road, Searsmont. Private interment will be held at the East Union Cemetery.
