ROCKLAND – Arlene D. McLain, 93, died peacefully, Wednesday, July 31, 2019, at the Cushing Homestead.

Born in Rockland, March 29, 1926, a daughter of Leon and Marion Huntley Fickett. Educated in local schools, Arlene was Salutatorian of her Rockland High School graduating class.

In May of 1950, she married Newell M. McLain. Arlene was a fabulous cook and homemaker. She was happiest when looking after and taking care of her husband. At the time of his death in 2013, they had enjoyed 63 years of marriage.

Arlene particularly enjoyed watching the neighborhood kids. They would go to her house after school and she baked cookies and treats for them. They often picked apples on the McLains property.

She was a longtime active member of Pratt Memorial Methodist Church and in later years, Aldersgate United Methodist Church.

Other than her parents and husband, Arlene was pre-deceased by two brothers-in-law, Bertram G. Snow and Edward W. Shaw. She is survived by three sisters, Helen Snow of Rockland, Beverly Shaw of Dover, NH, Janice Cornell and her husband Robert of Gray, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Friends and relatives are invited to visit from 10:00 to 11:00 am, Wednesday, August 7, 2019, at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland, where a funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. The Rev. Linda Campbell – Marshall will officiate.
