Obituary for Marsha Diane Rome

PORT CLYDE – Marsha D. Rome, 71, died peacefully at home, with her beloved husband at her side, Sunday, January 20, 2019.

Born in Rockland, March 28, 1947, she was the daughter of Merrill and Virginia Kinney Wall. Attending St. George Schools, Marsha was a 1965 graduate of Georges Valley High School.

Following high school Marsha married Eugene Bracy and together they had three girls. After Mr. Bracy’s untimely death in 1977, Marsha continued to raise her children in the St. George area.

In 1978 she met Scottie Rome, a Coast Guardsmen assigned to fix phone lines to Monhegan. The pair met at a gathering at the Ocean House Hotel and the rest, as they say, was history. Scottie and Marsha were married on April 15, 1983 aboard the Laura B in Port Clyde.

After residing in Michigan for two years while Scottie finished his Coast Guard career, they returned to their beloved Port Clyde. Here Marsha kept busy raising her blended family as well as working as a cook at the Dip Net and a cashier at the General Store.

Marsha was an excellent cook and anything she made turned out great. She enjoyed knitting wash cloths and slippers, giving many away as gifts. In her spare quiet time she could often be found playing an electronic game or two. Marsha’s number one priority in life was her family. She loved nothing more than big family gatherings, having all of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren around her.
She will be sadly missed by all who loved her.

Predeceased by her parents, and a daughter Pamela Bracy Randall; Marsha is survived by her husband Lindsay ‘Scottie’ Rome of Port Clyde, her children, Paula Banta and her companion Jim Gile of Winthrop, Amethyst Johnson and her husband Jimmy of Rockland; Nick Rome and his wife Beth of Hancock, Stacey Rome of Thomaston; her brother Richard Wall and his wife Malta Lee of Tenants Harbor; her grandchildren, Joseph McCarthy, Jessica Douglas and her husband Wayne, Jayden Banta, Jamie Banta, Kelsey Thompson, Alex Thompson, Willow Largy, Nolka Largy, Madison Rome, Mikayla Rome, Nicole Lesnyk, Kurits Bertrand, Catriona Burnett; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, including Michael R. Wall of Sydney; and many cousins.

Family and friends are invited to visit from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., Friday, February 1, 2019 at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland, where a celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Private interment will be held in the Spring.
