Obituary for Charles Edward Grover

Charles Edward  Grover
CUSHING - Charles E. Grover, 87, died Tuesday, September 7, 2010 with his family at his side, at Windward Gardens Nursing Home in Camden.
Born in Rockland, September 10, 1922, he was the son of Alton and Ethel Vose Grover. He was educated locally and was a 1941 graduate of Thomaston High School.
On November 25, 1942, Charles married Marion Overlock in Warren.
Following high school Charles was employed on a local egg farm, and later at the lumber mill.
He went into the U.S. Army in 1943, and served in Iwo Jima. He was discharged on January 11, 1946.
Later in life Charles enjoyed fishing and camping. Traveling to the local agricultural fairs and watching horse pulling were favorite pastimes. He also enjoyed trips in his camper with his wife to Canada and Florida.
Mr. Grover is survived by his wife Marion of 67 years, his son, Alton Grover and his wife, Nancy; his two daughters, Charlene Benner, Lucy Stackpole and her husband, Robert all of Cushing; grandchildren, Michelle Benner and her companion Tom Ingerson of Cushing, Michael Benner and his wife, Jennifer of Cushing, Jason Benner and his wife Vikki of Appleton, Benjamin Stackpole, Scott Stackpole and his wife Cheryl, Jared Stackpole and his companion Meagan Rackliff, Charles Grover and his wife, Tara, all of Cushing, Sherry Brackett and her husband Mark of Owls Head; and great-grandchildren, Tyler Ingerson, Lily Stackpole, Abby Stackpole, Leland Stackpole, Kennadi Grover, Kalyn Grover, Kalli Grover, Casey Benner, Hannah Benner, Madison Benner, Landyn Benner, Vanessa Benner, Jeanette Baxter, Jacob Brackett and Jordan Brackett. He was pre-deceased by two grandchildren, Derek Benner and Randi Baxter.
A graveside celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 9, 2010 at Village Cemetery, Thomaston. The Reverend Wayne Sawyer will officiate. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Meals-On-Wheels, 39 Summer Street, Rockland, ME 04841, or Cushing Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 20, Cushing, ME 04563.
Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland.
