Obituary for Melvin C. "Jack" Genthner, Jr.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 5, 2005 at Dutch Neck Cemetery, Waldoboro
WALDOBORO - Melvin C. "Jack" Genthner, Jr., 77, was found dead at his home, Sunday, April 3, 2005 after an extended period of declining health.
Born at Dutch Neck here, he was one of ten children of Melvin C. Sr. and Alice Genthner. He was educated in local schools.
Prior to World War II, he was employed one year at the Camden Woolen Mill.
From September 1945 to February 1947, he served in the European Theater with the U.S. Army, A Company 250 Engineer Combat Battalion
In earlier years of his career, Jack worked as a carpenter/mason on construction projects throughout the mid-Atlantic states. He later worked many years as a self-employed lobsterman, fishing out of Waldoboro.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting and since retiring, particularly enjoyed taking friends, neighbors and family fishing and clamming.
An accomplished carpenter, he enjoyed building furniture, carving and painting birds.
He took great pleasure visiting many friends in East Dixfield.
He was a member of the Charles C. Lilly American Legion Post, Waldoboro.
Jack was pre-deceased by one brother, Charles M. Genthner; seven sisters, Idella Wentworth, Annie Condon, Goldie Light, Myra Richards, Alcada Stackpole, Sylvia McLeod and Barbara Winchenbach. He is survived by one sister, Esther Genthner of Waldoboro; two children he considered his own grandchildren, Savanah and Chance Swett of East Dixfield as well as many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 5, 2005 the Dutch Neck Cemetery, Waldoboro. The Reverend Wayne Sawyer will officiate. Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter and Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland.
