Obituary for Samuel Gordon Burtis

CAMDEN - Samuel Gordon Burtis, 89, died Tuesday, June 17, 2003 at Penobscot Bay Medical Center, Rockport.
Born at Woodmere, Long Island, New York, he was the son of Warren and Agnes Burtis.
In 1940, he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force and later served as a U.S. Navy Reconnaissance Photographer, flying unarmed "Spitfire" aircraft during World War II.
Throughout his career, Mr. Burtis worked as an Engineer with NASA.
Besides his wife Helen G. Gilroy Burtis of Camden, he is survived by three sons, Samuel G. Burtis, Jr. of New York, Warren A. Burtis of California, Dwight G. Burtis of Shapleigh and two grandchildren.
Private arrangements are under the direction of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland.
The Burtis' family desires that in lieu of flowers, Mr. Burtis be remembered in prayer and meditation.
